A Quick Update to Organize our Home Office Closet

quick and easy home office organizing

Brad has been working from home for a few years now (even prior to Covid). A dedicated home office would be ideal, however our home wasn’t blessed with one. Instead, we’ve been experimenting with a few different configurations to create an office space to suit his needs.

Currently, Brad’s been working out of Eva’s old bedroom and she’s moved into the Master.

I’ve slowly been editing the room to turn it into a functional and comfortable workspace.

Recently, I organized and labeled small items into one easy to access & central location: the home office closet.

Luckily, we had already added adjustable shelves to this closet, so my job was strictly organizational.

I left the clothing rod (in case we move Eva back in the near future). Then I added multiple white containers to hold all of our extra supplies. I kept costs low by using simple white containers from the Dollar Store.

Here is a list of items we’re storing in the Office Closet:

  • Manuals (indoor, outdoor, and toy)
  • Photo Albums
  • Electronics (Extension cords, Power Bars, Small Cords, Plug adapters & cable ties, iPhone & iPod, Camera & Parts, Headphones)
  • Gaming (plugs, cables, cords, travel accessories)
  • Lights (Light bulbs, Fairy Lights, Candles, Flashlights, Glow Sticks)
  • Decorating Samples (Paint, carpet, stone samples etc)
  • General Office Supplies (glue, envelopes & postage, tape, binders, labels, Extra stationary & dividers)
  • General Home Maintenance (Furniture Protectors, Command Hooks, vent filters)
  • Extra Parts (Handles, Hooks, etc)

Quick Tips:

:: Using multiples of the same container can make inexpensive baskets look chic

:: If possible, build in room to grow. I have included a few empty containers to fill in the future. (eliminating the need to reorganize every time I want to add something to the closet)

:: Uniform labels empower everyone to help keep the space tidy.

Don’t stress over the categories …you only need them to make sense to you. I ended up separating flashlights and glow sticks because we had enough for two baskets. Similarly, I keep all of our tape together, whereas you might want to store packaging tape with your mail supplies.

I look forward to revealing more of the room soon!
