The Easiest DIY to Update Boring Bedroom Doors
We have a tiny older home, and with it we have inherited the previous owners plain boring bedroom doors. 🙂 We could replace them, but it’s not high on my list of things to do in the house. SO one evening, inspiration hit and I decided to jazz up the kids doors with a little leftover paint.
Instructions for Painting a Jumbo Letter on a Bedroom Door
- I used painters tape to tape off a large letter on each door (I wasn’t fussed with perfection, I simply eyeballed the size and started taping away. I was tempted to tape off a calligraphy inspired letter for Eva …maybe next time 🙂 )
- Next, I painted inside the letter with some leftover wall paint from Maxwell’s bedroom (Benjamin Moore Horizon). Use whatever you have on hand …a brush or small paint roller can both get the job done!
- After 2 coats, I removed the painters tape, and voila! – In a very short amount of time I had a jumbo painted letter on each of the kids doors.
I think it makes our hallway a little less boring, AND the kids think it’s cool to have personalized jumbo letters on their doors.
Eva has a mirror on the inside of her door, but Maxwell’s door is bare inside, so my next project might be to paint something cool on the inside of his door.
…AND, if a jumbo letter isn’t your thing, there are so many other ways to decorate a plain door. You could consider:
- removable decals
- chalkboard paint
- adding a whiteboard sticker for writing cute messages
- adding corkboard to hold treasures & memos
- painting a unique design or graphic pattern
- creating a temporary design with washi tape
- adding a gallery wall for artwork
Truly, the possibilities are endless!
